    Tourism's Road to the Green Innovation Economy
    CALYX, Sustainable Hotel & Tourism Consultants

    This session will include several energizing group, interactive sessions. It will begin with a broad overview of sustainable tourism, describe the drivers of sustainable tourism and business strategies, and the impact of existing public policy.

    1. Overview of sustainable tourism
    2. The Constrained earth: systems and physical limits
    3. Drivers of sustainable tourism: shifting appetites, the return to nature, experiential tourism, geotourism and green meetings
    4. Regionalism and place-based tourism: authenticity, unique selling proposition – the importance of beauty and connecting different activity hubs together (nature, food/farming, culture)
    5. Green hotels: standards, certification and nuts and bolts - green building, landscaping, water, energy, purchasing, chemicals
    6. The people factor: incorporating training, interactivity, green team development
    7. Benefits and linking strategic business objectives (new markets and customers, reputation, differentiation, asset value, leadership development) to sustainability.

    This session will include two breaks.

    KAF Adventures & EverGreen Escapes

    • 3 hour rock climbing session
    • Transportation included to and from Cave B
    • All technical climbing gear will be provided

    • Rock Climbing and Geology Tour of the Columbia Basin – Rain or Shine

    Challenge yourself physically and mental in a fun and supportive environment. Learn a little about the geology of the Columbia Basin and other people in the industry.

    Plan on being outside for up to 3 hours rain or shine

    Wine Blending Workshop
    Cave B Estate Winery

    Spend a little time in our Winemaker's shoes, tasting and blending your own custom wine blends. Participants will taste through four varietals in their pure form, then will be given some “tools of the trade” for measuring percentages and blending based on personal preference. You'll take home a souvenir wine glass and an impressive new level of wine sophistication!
